shot one down

So, this is what I had done to my knee yesterday.  The second picture makes me a little woozy and I am not a needle-phobe (except giving blood).  I am not going to lie, it hurt(s) like hell.  The gel is really thick and and I can kind of feel it moving around inside my knee.  OK maybe I can't I just think I can, either way it is a little strange.  One down, two more to go!!

I have had a lot of people asking me why I still run if I have such bad problems with my knees.  I will try to keep this down to the Reader's Digest version.  I was in dance at a very young age and loved it, was really good at it too.  I started having really bad knee pain and went to the doctor to see what was going on.  Turns out I had Osgood Schlatter, the doctor pulled me out of all activity even gym at school.  Shortly after this was diagnosed my dad got laid off and I was taken out of dance.  I always blamed the knee problems for having to stop dance, although now I know it was probably more of a financial thing.  I still have problems with pateller tracking, not sure if this was caused by the OS or if it cause the OS but either way I wouldn't know what life would be like without some kind of knee problems.  I have very little cartilage left in my knee, thus the visceral fluid "cushion".  My doctor knows I like to run and he told me yesterday that as long as the injections work we can do them up to every 6 months.  Once they stop working he will look into surgical options.  At any rate, I don't want my crappy knees to rob me of something else I enjoy doing. The shots hurt like hell for less than a minute, my knee is sore for a couple of days and I am pain free for 6 months.  A small price to pay.  Even if I do pass out a little.

My eating is crap.  I took my sister to eat last night.  I was proud of myself for not getting a glass of wine, this sister doesn't drink so that helps.  We got an appetizer; Italian Nachos, god they were good.  I also got tortellini.  I ended up snarfing on the nachos and hardly touching the meal.  Next time I won't bother with an entree.  But, I have my lunch for today.

My weight is still the same.  I go back to the band doctor on the 18th, not sure if he will give me another small fill or not.  I kind of wonder if some of the weight might be because of the inflammation in my knee and the injection....and the sodium from the nachos, doh.

I have decided not to run today.  I will run with my friend after work tomorrow.  I warned her that I might have to walk and she said that was fine with her, or we could even go to the fitness room downstairs at work and do the bike.  I kind of want to run a little and see if it works some of the stiffness out.  Guess I will cross that bridge tomorrow.

  1. OUCH OUCH OUCH. I had a couple injections for my back (the corticosteroid kind) and nope. I can't even imagine on my knee. I hear you though on "why keep running?" I do it anyways even though the back dr doesn't like it. TOO BAD!
