10 things thursday
This is my first addition of 10 things Thursday, lets see if I can come up with 10 things....
1. I am having a bad food day. I threw up for 30 minutes after I ate lunch. I think it is because of the sinus drainage but I am not sure. At any rate I am going to skip my run tonight because I feel drained. Will do the run tomorrow because I am going to go home and take a nap.
2. This has been a bad week for people in my high school graduating class. One lost a 15 year old daughter in a car wreck and another lost their 17 year old son to cancer. I don't know either of them personally but I feel so bad for them.
3. I am thinking about going to Chicago to meet some of you lovely ladies in person. Anyone need a roommate?
4. Busy weekend scheduled. I have a 7 mile run Saturday morning, have to pick up the necklace we ordered as my goal present; (it has all 7 (yes I said 7)) of our dogs names engraved in it. I will post a picture of it on Monday. I want to see the Hunger Games even though I wasn't overly fond of the book, and I need to find some cheap sundresses and slip on shoes for work.
5. Hunter, the best dog in the world, has to have surgery to remove a fatty tumor from his tummy. He will be 12 in July his daddy and I are both a little freaked out about him having to go under. We will take turns taking off work to be at home with him until the drain tube comes out (5 days). This guy is like our kid. We love all our dogs but this was my first and he is my soul mate.
6. Being at my goal weight scares the hell out of me. I am at 123.4 and originally told the doctor I wanted to be around 120-125 as my goal. I keep lowering the number - I tell people now I want to be 115 - becausee I am not good at maintenance. I have lost and regained so much weight pre-band that maintenance is the same as time to gain all that weight back. I am really starting to get nervous about what is ahead of me. But that is why I had this procedure, right?
7. I love Dance Moms - there I said it, I feel so much better now.
8. I need to buy a lottery ticket. I will probably forget but holy crap that is a lot of money they are giving away!!
9. I don't like to brush my teeth with cold water. Not sure why. My teeth are sensitive or anything I just don't feel like cold water gets my teeth as clean as warm water.
10. That was harder then it looks!! Probably more then anyone ever wanted to know about me.

Help from those who are at maintenance
125.2 this morning. This means I am at my "high" goal!! I have 7 pounds until I hit my low goal (118). I guess I need to start thinking about what I need to do now. Maintenance is a scary word and I am not sure I am ready to face it. I go back to my doctor April 30 and I will talk to him and find out what I need to do next. I know how badly my weight has yo-yoed through the years and I kind of freak out thinking about where I might be in a year, or two, or three....
In the meantime I got into a discussion with Dennis this morning about when I am going to stop trying to lose weight. He thought my pants were way too big. I never thought that would be a possible topic of conversation. The funny thing is, I am not sure I know how NOT to try to lose weight. Does that even make sense? In full disclosure, my size 4 pants are really baggy in the butt. Even though the scale has moved only a little in the last month, my clothes are still getting bigger. There is a thrill there that is hard to explain to someone who doesn't have a weight problem. I am wearing a size 2/4 and I know in my rational brain that is a small size, but I still don't "see" it in myself. I wonder if I will ever see it?
So what will the doctor do once I am at goal? Will he take some of the fluid out so I am able to eat a little more and will stop the gradual weight loss? Will it just kind of taper off eventually? I back in April 30 and I hope I am at my low goal then and can find out what my next step is.
Sorry for the random thought Tuesday post....

Make a list Monday
Brought to us by Robyn!
We all have this secret dream……. What are the first ten things I would do if I WON THE LOTTERY? Admit it, you think about it, even if you don’t play. Let’s make it a fun amount too since this is all make believe anyway.
List the first ten things you would do if you cashed in a winning lottery ticket for $200,000,000.00 (after taxes).
1. Create a Trust so the money will be set up in the name of the trust and not to me, making it harder for people to find out what individual the money went to and try to scam money.
2. Move to Kanab Utah and become a full time volunteer at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary
3. Pay off debts for my family
3. Send SO to school to become a private pilot, buy him a plane so he can fly us all around the world.
4. Of course I would have a little nip and tuck done....
5. Buy a huge ranch (in Utah of course) where the dogs can run, hike, swim, and enjoy the rest of their days and not worry about anyone ever being mean to them again (all of my kids are rescue dogs)
6. Huge shopping spree and spa day for my mom and sisters...in Paris
7. Hire Dolvett to be my personal trainer in my own state of the art gym
8. Run at least a half marathon distance in every country (well almost every country)
9. Hire a chef but I am not sure who....maybe a different one for each month, lol.
10. Stay healthy and do what I could to make sure my friends and family did the same.

back in the saddle
I rejoined my gym and rode the stationary bike for 7.5 butt numbing miles. The knee pain was minimal, kind of went numb towards the end. I am not having any more of the episodes where my knee feels like it is going out, but it is still sore. I hope insurance approves the other injections, I have heard good things about it.
No workout tonight, I am going straight to my hair godess to get my hair did after work, may even sneak out a little early so I can run a few errands on the way. It has rained pretty much non-stop for the last three days and I am trying to minimize my trips. I saw a horrible wreck on the way back from the gym yesterday.
I am not sure if I put it in my blog or not but I have decided not to run the Dallas RNR half this weekend. My friend that I was supposed to hang out with made other plans when I told her I hurt my knee (which I totally understand) so I would have been down there on my own. Normally that wouldn't bother me but with having the knee issue I am not sure what I would have done if I had a serious issue and had to be pulled. It is all good. It did break my heart a little to cancel my hotel reservation and make it official, but I am looking forward to the Austin 1020 April 15 and the OKC half two weeks later. I probably need to bike and keep my legs and lungs in shape until then and back off the running. I already know I am going to be really slow so it makes no sense in pushing it. The good thing is I go back to the ortho the day after OKC and see about the Synvisc injections. I have one more half scheduled after that, May 19 in Joplin, then I hope to focus on getting more comfortable on my road bike. I don't like riding next to people and I know I need to get over that if I ever want to, you know, ride with friends!! A bike rack for Kermit is supposed to be in the works.
I haven't weighed in 2 days!! That is some kind of record for me. But, my weight doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Stuck at 127.8 I would love to get down to 118, which the doctor said is doable but I am on my own unless I just really need a fill, and I am going to have to show him I really need it. Seeing as how I have never had an overfill I really wish he would just fill me up until I can get down to goal, especially with the knee injury. I know I am being a brat. Heck this time last year I would have never guess I would be able to wear a 2/4. My sister told me last weekend that I am becoming that annoying thin person who always complains about how fat I am. I just really wish I could see that I am not fat anymore!!

ouch
This was stuck in my knee today....
The good news is, nothing is torn but the cartilage is worn down and the doctor said that he would recommend I take up another form of exercise. He said that I could run this weekend but I am not sure if my friend that lives in Dallas made other plans or not, since I told her I probably wouldn't be able to run. I haven't ran at all in two weeks so it will not hurt my feelings if she has. I am sure I would have to walk most of it.
Before my ortho appointment I went to the check up with my band doctor. He called me skinny (blush). He asked me how much more weight I wanted to lose. I told him I would like to be 118, that would put me at a 20 BMI. He said he wasn't opposed to it but he wasn't going to give me a fill to help me off this plateau of 127.8. I am sure once my knee pain subsides and I am able to exercise it will help a lot. I don't go back until April 30.
I did some major shopping this weekend with my sister. We hit Marshall's and Ross. I got some really cute dresses and a few shirts. I still needed pants so I stopped at Name Brand Clothing and found 5 pair of Ann Taylor Loft pants (size 4) and a rain jacket (it is pouring here) for $30!! I find that I still go straight for the 12/14's and have to remind myself that I am in the wrong place. My sister kept getting on to me for grabbing large shirts. I also gave away most of my "big" clothes. I was getting tired of picking up a pair of pants for work thinking I had something to wear and they wouldn't stay up. Not that I am complaining about wearing a size 4 for the first time in my life!!!
I am using the injection in my knee as an excuse not to cook tonight. I wonder what Dennis will come up with for dinner....

knees and moms
Still at 127.8 after a brief dip down to the 126 range yesterday. I am sure Chinese food for lunch had something to do with that. It's ok, it was worth it....
Yesterday was insane crazy busy beyond belief. I was at the knee doctor bright and early. As if on command my knee popped as he was doing the exam, although there was no pain associated with it this time. He said I have about 20% laxity in my knee and it could be meniscus; which would only require that I manage the pain (he has a torn meniscus too that he hasn't had fixed.) Or it could be the MCL. He sent me for an MRI. I told him it wouldn't do any good to discuss options and freak me out until we know for sure what we are dealing with. My doctor's appointment was done at 9 and my MRI was at 11. So I went to Kohl's and just kind of messed around for awile waiting for my appointment. I ended up buying a pair of Vera Wang trouser jeans in a size 4 really cheap. They are a little big but they look really nice. Made it to the MRI a little early and read my Kindle to waste time. I left that place at 12 and stopped at a Chinese take out place on my way back to my office (my new favorite dish, Kung Fu chicken. Not sure what it is but man it was good). I got to the office about 12:30 or a little after and was handed a reem of paper and told I had a meeting at 1:00. I don't eat food quickly very well anymore . I ended up in three meetings and had to eat my food in a few bites between each meeting. Doesn't look like today is going to be much better but I should be able to at least take time for lunch .
In knee news, Dennis and I went to the store last night. He was looking at something at the end of the aisle and I had walk ahead to almost the end of the aisle. My knee popped again, this time so loud Dennis said that people two aisles over could have heard it. It felt great for about an hour before it started locking up/going out again. So freaking strange. This morning it has already started up again. I thought for a breif time that I was better but not so much.
I have an appointment with the knee doctor Monday at 2:10 to find out what the MRI said. I am really happy with how fast they are getting this done. The doctor said he didn't want me to miss out on the RNR half if it was something he thought that we could fix pretty easily, but he did say it wasn't soft tissue, it was for sure something in the mechanics of my knee. Can't wait to find out....
In the mean time, I have started cleaning out my closet and getting rid of my too big clothes. I have a friend at work who had gastric bypass. I gave her all my 10's. I have a few 14's that I am giving my Mom this weekend. Me and my sister are going to shopping at Marshall's and Ross to see if I can find some clothes that fit. I am down to almost nothing. My mom still hasn't acknowledged that I have lost any weight. She said she was going to a consignment store that is going out of business. I told her that if she found any 4's, particularly Ann Taylor or Loft to get them for me and I would pay her back. All she said was smart ass. Not sure what it will take for me to get a "gosh Terrie, you look really good. I can tell you have worked hard". But I guess that is too much to ask. Funny becuase I am starting to have people tell me not to lose any more or I will be too skinny (cracks me up every time because I still see myself as big) but my Mom won't say a word.

What a weekend!! I think I ate everything that wasn't healthy; nachos, cheese dip, chicken chunks, chocolate. Somehow I have managed not to gain any weight, still at 127.8, but I have no clue how I managed that. I have got to stop doing that.
I went to Goodwill on Saturday to find some pants. I have one pair of 4's that fit, other then that it is 8's and 10's....not sure what happened to 6. Anyway, I had to get some clothes that fit and I am tired of spending a fortune on clothes that only fit for a month. I bought 3 pairs of pants, 2 still had tags on them, and a pair of jeans for $20.
I am at that stage where people are starting to tell me that I don't need to lose any more weight. I would love to lose another 7 pounds but we will see what my body wants to do. My initial goal when I started on this journey was 120/125, I am 2.8 pounds from the high goal so we will see.
weekend recap...
Friday night was fun, even though we have the worst hockey team in the CHL. We have yet to go to game this season that they have managed to win. Kind of gets depressing if you think about it, so we don't, :laugh5:. We had great seat right on the ice and the people behind us were a bunch of smart asses that normally would have gotten on our nerves but they kept us laughing the entire game since our team really sucks and there isn't much more you can do but laugh.
Saturday morning I tried to go for a run. My knee is still sore from Thursday. I didn't even make it to the end of my street before it started to feel like it was going out or buckling again. So I decided no run this weekend. I had my spa day and tried to forget about it as much as I could. It is really kind of strange because it feels fine but every once in awhile it just feels like it is going to give out and it hurts really bad. I have an appointment with my usual sports med doctor on Wednesday. I am hoping he will give me a cortisone shot and not tell me my meniscus is torn and that I will have to have surgery. I may have to skip out on the Dallas RNR half if it isn't better and I am fine with that, I have plenty more to make up for it. I will not be fine with missing the Austin 1020 though!
Saturday night I went to see Stomp. Really not my thing. Noise gets on my nerves. I will pull my car over if something is making a noise so I can make it stop. I have gone outside in the middle of the night to kill a cricket to make it shut up. So a bunch of people dancing around banging on random sh!t is not my idea of a good time. There were a few things that they did that gave me the same feeling as fingernails on a chalkboard. I was so ready of the night to be over. But I am glad that I went cause I got to see the list of shows for next season and I am super excited about it. West Side Story, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, Jekyll and Hyde, and the Lion King!!!! I would pay the $220 for the other shows just to see the Lion King again!!
I decided that maybe I should wear my old knee brace on Sunday. So I put it on and went to run my errands. The brace made it so much worse!! I could hardly make it from my car to the store. so I stopped in the parking lot and threw it away. I am beginning to feel like I am always injured!! I wonder if it has anything to do with over training for the amount of calories I am taking in?

I wonder if it has anything to do with over training for the amount of calories I am taking in?

band check up
I go to the doctor at 11. I kind of hope he will give me a little top off but I don't think he will. I think I am down about 5 pounds from the last time I was in.
Dennis was out of town last night so I took decided to go to my least favorite place in the world; Walmart, to pick take back the camera I bought the day before I left for Little Rock (it broke before I made it to mile 10) and pick up some food for my bare fridge. While I was out I stopped and ate. I ended up getting stuck. It really sucks going out to eat by yourself and having to rush to the nearest door/restroom, leaving your food. I didn't want them to think I ran out on the check. Of course the waitress probably didn't even know I left the table, but I am always worried about that - since I travel solo for work so often. I need to carry around a note or something telling them I will be right back.
I bought some KT tape and taped my knee up. It feels much better and much more stable. Still not sure how far I will be able to run this weekend.
Tonight I am going to a hockey game, tomorrow I am going to see Stomp. I am so not looking forward to Stomp. I think it will just give me a major headache, but I promised my friend I would go with her. Not sure what I was thinking....
OK that is about it for my randomonium for today. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

The funeral for the guy that died Sunday is today. I thought about sending flowers but decided that they don't have a clue who I am, I don't want to have to explain who I am, and it probably won't help me feel any better.
I ran/mostly walked 2 miles on Monday and felt all kinds of pain, ran yesterday in 30mph winds and did ok (13:10 pace) for the first two miles but lost it on the last mile and ended up doing almost 15 pace. My knee popped around halfway through and it kind of felt "soft" I am going to give it the weekend before I run to see Dr. Z. I have 6-8 miles scheduled on Saturday, depending on how I feel. After all, my next run is March 25!!
I made an appointment at a Human Performance Lab to have my VO2 max checked and to get some smarter views on training. One of the guys that runs with our group did this and PRed by 20 minutes Sunday!! I just hope he doesn't make fun of me for being so slow since he has trained some world class athletes. I am interested in what he has to say with my WLS and heart condition. I go in next Friday.

Not the Half Marathon I expected
Half marathon did not go as planned, some times you are put in certain places at an exact time because you were meant to be there. I kind of think that is what happened yesterday. I will recap but let me just start by saying that I saw a guy collapse at mile 11. Me and two other girls stopped to render aid. He was combative, and mostly unresponsive. We sat there waiting for an ambulance to take the guy to the hospital probably 20 minutes total. The guy died at the hospital. I know we did everything we could until the professionals got there but I can't help but replay it over and over again in my mind.
So back to the start. The trip up was a fun four hour ride in the car. It really wasn't bad at all. One of the girls I rode with had her daughter paint up the windows of the van. We were about as loud and crazy as three girls in a van could get. We all spent way too much time at the expo because I broke down and signed up for Joplin Half May 19. Not sure what I was thinking.
Race morning was a little chilly but not bad....
I started out strong. They didn't have pace groups for the half but I stayed with the 6 hour marathon pace group until mile 6 or 7; that is when I tossed my jacked and realized that my Garmin had paused at .22 miles!! I literally thought I was going to have a heart attack; probably the closest thing to a real panic attack I have ever had. My chest was hurting and I could barely walk, let alone run. I was freaked the out. I mean how was I supposed to keep track with out the garmin. Of course it didn't dawn on me then to just stick with the pace group, we didn't split until mile 10 or so, so I would have stayed on track if I would have had the forethought but nope. Oh well. So I lost my pace group and my mojo for a few miles. I came upon an aid station that was just amazing and they kind of helped me get my groove back around 9, 9 1/2. I just kept thinking to myself I have a lot of time to make up. As soon as I saw the 10 mile marker I knew I was golden. I probably wouldn't hit the sub 3 but I would be just over it. I was having fun again.
I looked up around mile 11 and saw this guy just standing in the road. I though oh crap this can't be good. About that time he went down like a wet noodle (one of Dennis' sayings). I am not sure who helped him to the ground but I am glad someone did, there was a huge chunk of cement that he barely missed. Two girls beat me to him, he was still somewhat coherent at the time and they were trying to give him a protein bar. I stopped and told them to stop doing that because if he does lose consciousness he would choke. I dug out a gu and told them to put that under his tongue. They tried to argue that the gu would be too sweet and upset his stomach We finally got a little bit of gu under his tongue and someone flagged down a police officer who was calling in help. I checked his pulse and it was really high, his skin was ice cold and his eyes were rolled back in his head. I kept calling him by name and asking him questions. He didn't know where he was or what day of the week it was. None of the answers to the common questions you ask. He kept trying to get up and this boy was strong. I sat on top of the big chunk of cement just in case he managed to sit up enough (he wouldn't be able to stay up long) I didn't want him to hit his head. The first responders got there about 5 or so minutes later. They first thought it was a blood sugar issue and while one of them checked that the other put the blood pressure cuff on him. His BS was 105 so with the Gu that was fine. By that time it was full on sunny so I scooted around to shade the screen so they could read the digital read out on the BP machine. His BP was 87/35. This was just the mule vehicle that took people to the medical tent so they started screaming for an ambulance over the radio. The paper said he had help within 2 minutes but I know we waited for the ambulance for at least 15 or 20 minutes. They got him loaded up in the blink of an eye. I left before the ambulance did, there was nothing I could do at that point. This morning one of my friends who stayed the night in LR sent me a text telling me that he didn't make it. Not the kind of thing you want to wake up to.
I am glad I was able to help what little I did but talk about feeling useless!! I feel so bad for this guys family, he was 37!! I have been involved in fatality stuff before when I was a park ranger, but it was from injuries or old people having heart attacks. This is not nearly as "easy" to deal with.
After that it was kind of hard to get my head back in the game. I just tried to have fun with it, tried to encourage people. I stopped and talked to the people dressed up like pirates (my camera died about mile 8), stopped and fixed my make-up and the lip stick stop (right at the finish so you look good for the finish line pictures). Time be damned.
I will be running Dallas for Mike, the guy who passed away. I might not do a sub 3 and that is OK, I want to have a good time and finish strong for him.
Things are going well on the weight and exercise front. I am down to 128, 8 pounds from the initial goal I set for myself and a pound away from 50 lost since 1 July. I ran a little on Monday to get the soreness worked out of my legs from Sunday. I was going to do 3 miles yesterday but the wind was gusting up to 50mph there was so much smoke in the air from wildfires I thought it would be best to rest. Going to try it again tonight.
