What to bring

I am starting to mentally pack my bag for the hospital on Thursday.  So far the list consists of:

Comfy clothes
flip flops
medication - current and the ones they will give me at pre-op
my pillow
Kindle
toothbrush - I am guessing I will need to bring my own?
maybe my netbook?
cell phone charger

I need to check on buying:
a cheap non-underwire cotton bra
gas-X of some sort, I think the strips will make me gag...
scar cream stuff, can't remember the name of it right now - won't need that for a week or so anyway.

What else will I need?

  1. Are you going to be staying overnight? If not, I'd say you wouldn't need your phone charger or netbook, maybe just the kindle. You'll be in pain afterward and probably won't want to do much of anything, and hopefully you shouldn't be waiting too long before. Same with the toothbrush, I'd just do it before I left in the morning, if you're not staying overnight.

The only other thing I might say to bring is chapstick. :) Seems like you're pretty well-prepared.

  2. I brought my kindle and didn't even open it. I stayed for 23 hour observation (basically overnight) I did bring my toothbrush and comfy clothes but nothing else. You really aren't going to feel like surfing or anything and it's better to not have valuables in your hospital room. Just my two cents!

  3. I agree with the above. If you wont be there overnight just wear your comfy clothes and a no wire bra(trust me no one will mind). Once they get you into preop the nurses and docs will be taking up all of your time, unless your surgery is delayed as mine was due to my surgeon at which time I just napped. After surgery I wasnt in pain, but they did have me sleeping and did an xray and then I was made to drink so that I could go home and I was ready.....good luck and you will be fine...

PS my mouth was so dry that the gasx strips were nasty and stuck to my tongue.
